I’m working thru some paper prototypes for a mini ‘How to use #Codesign workshop’ next week.
This is for academics and professionals who are unsure of how to take their existing practices and research methodologies and use them with a community rather than on a community.
What is key is to explain the Gap.
Codesign creates a gap and into that Gap goes new possibilities and enhanced capabilities. You are not going into someone else’s territory and exploiting it. You are making a new space for imagination and creation.
Feelings
The Gap is a new space for interaction and making that Codesign creates. At first that Gap looks, perhaps, worrying.
A new space in which power and capacities mix in uncomfortable ways. Privilege and authority shifting.
Understanding and respecting how people feel about the Gap is the foundation.
Stories
The shape and purpose of the new space is defined by what people say it it is.
It is a new space for telling stories, mutually.
A space for sharing rather than exploiting.
A space for serendipity and change.
Futures
Finally a new space that becomes a future place.
By sharing and working together, something is built for the long-term.
The work changes the community and the community changes the professional and their institution.
