Just while sitting in a meeting, I do realise that many people are thinking in terms of outputs and formats that are quite different.
I think in diagrams and processes. How we map out the next steps and how we share ideas of relationships of elements. Slides and maps.
I know however, that other people are thinking differently.
Some are taking minutes and working on the structures of reports or bid documents. Long form text and writing.
Meanwhile, some people are thinking of budgets and delivery dates. The spreadsheets and calendars of money and time.
All have the same intent and goals but how they think and formalise those intentions differs. It’s not that there is a right way, it’s that there are many pathways.
Asking me to write a long report: not a great way of using me. Asking for slides and a workshop: better.
Knowing and respecting these divergences is important for good management.
Badges?
The badges are simply a way of thinking about making our internal processes more explicit to each other. Let people share the stresses and realise that it’s the ‘alongsideness’ of thinking that delivers projects rather then a single output format and a single pathway.
