Fixing Problems by Mapping Perception and Intent

Paper model with Lego Minifig looking on. The sense and sensible gateways of meeting intent in that time and place

Mapping perception and intent is what I do with people in their places on walking workshops.

It is because the place and the movement are what keep shifting the perception, usability and intent of the visitors or users.

  1. Perception seeks Usability

Perception is embodied and split into two key parts. What is sensed (the physical accessibility of information) and what is sensible (the cognitive/cultural comprehensibility of information). Both gateways must be open.

  1. Usability is Contextual

What is perceivable is however, not stable as the goal of usability shifts around the contexts of intent. What needs to perceived changes as intent and place changes.

Just do it

There are many quick wins for organisations in making their places, their services and their content more usable and accessible. Being present in their places is the best start, mapping creates action lists and prioritisation.
